Remembering Karl

As many of you know, Dr. Karl Kopp, minister of the First Divine Science Church, passed away on October 4, 2005.  That week was the first time in many years that I did not have a talk with Karl prior to the Jung Society lecture.  I sat in the audience that Friday night, October 7th, with an empty feeling, knowing that I would never hear his voice again.  His was a voice I had come to rely on and to love.

I met Karl about fifteen years ago, and from that time forward, he took an active interest in helping me and others promote the study of Jungian thought in this community.  He was a consistent, intelligent, caring presence in the life of the Jung Society of Colorado, as he was in so many other organizations and people’s lives.  For several years he served on the Jung Society Board, and even after he resigned he was still active in supporting us.

The members of the Board of the Jung Society of Colorado celebrate the life of Karl Kopp.  He was a dedicated promoter of community, discourse, and the creative life.  He was a poet and playwright, and yet always had time to help others in their creative ventures.  His influence lives on, and yes, I can still hear his deep, resonant voice from time to time.  Farewell Karl.  You will long be remembered.
